An overview of the last ten years of Montreal photographer John Londoño’s career, the exhibition NEW DAWN FADES recounts the artist’s singular interest for portrait, thus offering the audience both intimate prints and images immortalizing personalities such as Beck, Xavier Dolan, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Grimes, and Vanessa Paradis.

Following in Anton Corbijn and Hedi Slimane’s footsteps, NEW DAWN FADES allows us to grasp the essence of the work of the Venezuelan-born artist, whose aesthetic sensibility and ease at jumping from the underground to the mainstream give his subjects a magnificent incandescence. Grace joins the roughness and raw purity of unpolished diamonds immortalized by Londoño, whose photos have been published in Les Inrocks and Elle, as well as in Dress to Kill Magazine and The Guardian.

If John Baldessari roughly highlighted the essential role of light in photography by this phrase:

« All these people on the images meet here because of it »,

it would be agreed to say, in speaking of John Londoño, that, conversely, the encounter with light is due to the incomparable aura of which he enwraps all these individuals.
