Highlights from New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks

From September 9, 2022 to October 4, 2022 took place the fashion weeks of New York, London, Milan and Paris. For almost a month, hundreds of designers presented their ready-to-wear collections for the spring 2023 season to fashion and design fanatics. Although it’s hard to miss celebrity events and appearances, we’ve gathered the best moments of these weeks and the most beautiful street styles spotted in the streets of the fashion capitals!

What is fashion week?

Originally, fashion weeks allowed designers and brands to unveil their new collections during a fashion show. This is still the case today, but an aspect has been added since social networks exist: the show. Brands and fashion houses don’t just want to present their collections anymore, but to leave a mark on the minds of the audience and create a buzz to be seen all over the world. This is where extravagant settings, unusual places and spectacular stagings come into play.

Fashion week is not only about the shows; it’s also about street style, after-parties and celebrity appearances like the Kardashian-Jenners or iconic models like Naomie Campbell. Let’s face it, designers all want one thing: to have Anna Wintour sitting in the front row at their show, because if she does, it means that their creations are good (or that she judges them strongly).

The ready-to-wear fashion weeks are held twice a year: the winter collections are presented in February-March and the summer ones in September-October. We always start with the one in New York, then London, Milan and finally Paris. In recent years, cities around the world have also created their own fashion weeks, such as Copenhagen, Tokyo or Montreal! There are also men’s fashion weeks, where men’s collections are presented, and the haute couture fashion week which takes place only in Paris.

  Fun facts

1- Fashion week was not created in Paris, but in New York in 1993

2- Not everyone can attend the shows, you have to receive an invitation. So only media, celebrities, influencers and people from the fashion industry are present. However, fashion students sometimes manage to sneak in if they show up at the doors a few hours early…

3- The Chanel show is always the first of the last day of Paris Fashion Week.

Highlights from New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks

Fendi

New York Fashion Week starts with a bang with a Fendi show, organized to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the famous baguette bag, popularized by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City. In fact, the actress who plays Carrie Bradshaw has designed a bag in collaboration with the brand, which will be available in limited edition in February!

Vogue World

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Vogue magazine, a huge fashion show, named Vogue World, was presented in New York. During this fashion show, which was accessible live on the internet, dozens of celebrities and iconic models walked the runway to present looks from the latest collections of major fashion brands. Serena Williams opened the show in a stunning metallic cape and hundreds of models followed suit, dancing and having fun in a New York City setting. The icing on the cake: a performance by Lil Nas X as a finale!

Nensi Dojaka

England having learned the death of Queen Elizabeth II a few days before the London Fashion Week, the latter was quite quiet, to allow the country to live its mourning. However, if there is something that can cheer us up, it is the collections of Nensi Dojaka that are absolutely beautiful and seductive. Emily Ratajkowski, Jill Kortleve and Paloma Essler could be seen walking in the spring 2023 collection.

Gucci

To parade 68 pairs of twins is a crazy idea? However, this is what the artistic director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, decided to do and we think it’s genius! Everything seemed normal, when to the great surprise of the audience, a second simultaneous fashion show was unveiled on the other side of a wall, allowing the twins to meet. Completely crazy!

Versace

Paris Hilton walking for Versace in a pink sequined dress. How to find a more iconic moment than that? There is not…

Saint Laurent

It’s no secret that Anthony Vaccarello, the artistic director of Saint Laurent, loves to parade his collections in front of the Eiffel Tower. For his spring 2023 collection, he is no exception and the result is breathtaking. Before the show, the invited stars even had the right to a small photoshoot in front of the Iron Lady!

Courrèges

When it comes to spectacular scenery, here’s one that didn’t go unnoticed. Barefoot in the sand, the models paraded around what seemed to be a hole, where sand fell from the ceiling. Futuristic or paradisiac, we validate the decor as the collection.

Coperni

Known for mixing fashion and technology, Coperni once again did not go unnoticed during Paris Fashion Week. This time, the designers literally decided to create a dress from a liquid spray, which then turned into a kind of fabric once on the body of the model Bella Hadid. In short, a historic moment for fashion that we are not ready to forget right away!
